Terms of Use
Last updated: 21 September 2026
1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the HOP websites, mobile applications, and related services (together, the “Services”) operated by HOP (“HOP,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
By creating an account, joining our waitlist, requesting a ride, offering to drive, sending a package, or otherwise using the Services, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
2. The HOP Services
HOP is a technology platform that connects: (a) riders who request point-to-point transportation; (b) drivers who may accept those requests; and (c) senders who request courier delivery of packages through the same network, subject to availability in your city.
HOP does not itself provide transportation or courier carriage as a carrier. Unless we expressly say otherwise in writing, drivers and courier partners are independent third parties. HOP is not a transportation carrier, taxi company, or logistics carrier, and does not own the vehicles used to complete trips or deliveries, except where we clearly state otherwise for a specific product.
3. Eligibility
- You must be able to form a binding contract under applicable law.
- Riders and senders must generally be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, if higher), unless a verified parent or guardian authorises use under rules we publish.
- Drivers must meet the minimum age, licensing, vehicle, insurance, background-check, and documentation requirements we publish for your market, and must keep those requirements current.
- You may not use the Services if we have previously suspended or banned your account.
4. Accounts and security
You must provide accurate registration information and keep it updated. You are responsible for safeguarding login credentials and for activity on your account. Notify us promptly of unauthorised use at legal@hop.app.
We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, create safety or fraud risk, or are inactive.
5. Riders
When you request a ride, you agree to:
- Provide an accurate pickup and destination, and be ready at the pickup location within a reasonable time.
- Treat drivers and other users with respect; no harassment, threats, discrimination, or illegal conduct.
- Wear seat belts where required by law and follow reasonable safety instructions.
- Not request rides for unlawful purposes, or transport prohibited items (including weapons, illegal substances, or hazardous materials, except as allowed by law and our policies).
- Pay all applicable fares, tolls, fees, tips, cancellation charges, cleaning fees, and taxes displayed or later assessed for damage or violations attributable to you.
Estimated times of arrival, fares, and vehicle categories are informational and may change based on traffic, demand, routing, and driver availability. A request does not guarantee that a driver will accept or complete the trip.
6. Drivers
If you use the Services as a driver (or driver partner), you additionally agree that:
- You are an independent contractor, not an employee, agent, or joint venture partner of HOP, unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.
- You hold all licences, permits, insurance, and vehicle standards required by law and by HOP for your city, and you will not drive if those lapse.
- You will not accept trips while impaired, excessively fatigued, or otherwise unsafe to drive.
- You are responsible for your own tax obligations, fuel, maintenance, phone, and other costs of providing transportation, except where incentives or reimbursements we expressly offer apply.
- Platform fees, payout schedules, incentives, and quality standards are as disclosed in the driver app, partner portal, or separate driver agreement for your market.
- We may deactivate access for safety, fraud, ratings below thresholds we publish, policy violations, or legal compliance.
7. Courier and senders
When you use courier features, you are responsible for accurate pickup and drop-off details, package contents, packaging, and declarations. You must not send illegal, hazardous, perishable (unless permitted), fragile-beyond-reasonable-care, or prohibited items under our courier rules or applicable law.
Delivery windows are estimates. Risk of loss for package contents may be allocated as described in-app for your market; unless required by law, HOP is not a guarantor of package value beyond any stated limited protection programme.
8. Fares, payments, cancellations, and tips
Fares and fees may include a base amount, distance and time components, surge or demand multipliers, booking fees, tolls, waiting time, cancellation fees, and taxes. Final amounts may differ from pre-trip estimates.
Payment is processed through payment partners we designate. You authorise us and those partners to charge your selected payment method for amounts you owe. Failed payments may result in collection efforts, account limits, or suspension.
Tips are voluntary and, where offered, are intended for the driver or courier partner according to the rules shown at the time of tipping.
9. Ratings, communications, and community guidelines
Two-way ratings and feedback help keep the network safe and reliable. Manipulating ratings, retaliating for honest feedback, or posting unlawful or abusive content is prohibited. We may remove content and limit accounts that violate our community standards.
You consent to receive service-related messages (trip status, receipts, security alerts) by push, SMS, email, or in-app chat. Marketing messages follow applicable consent rules and can be opted out where required by law.
10. Prohibited uses
You agree not to:
- Interfere with the Services, scrape data without permission, reverse engineer apps except to the extent allowed by law, or introduce malware.
- Create fake accounts, spoof location, evade deactivation, or commit fraud (including chargeback abuse and promo abuse).
- Discriminate against other users on protected characteristics, or engage in sexual misconduct, violence, or threats.
- Use the Services for emergency medical transport or as a substitute for services that require specialised licensing we do not support.
11. Safety disclaimer
Transportation and urban delivery involve inherent risks. HOP uses tools such as identity checks, trip sharing, and support channels to improve safety, but we cannot guarantee that every trip or delivery will be free of incident. You should use common-sense precautions. In an emergency, contact local emergency services first.
12. Intellectual property
The Services, including software, branding, and content we provide, are owned by HOP or our licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Services for their intended purpose. You may not use HOP marks without prior written consent.
13. Third-party services
Maps, payments, messaging, analytics, and similar features may rely on third-party providers. Their terms and privacy practices apply to their services. HOP is not responsible for third-party outages beyond our reasonable control.
14. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
15. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HOP AND ITS DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND PARTNERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES.
EXCEPT WHERE LIABILITY CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, HOP’S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO HOP FOR THE TRIP OR DELIVERY GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM IN THE THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (OR LOCAL EQUIVALENT).
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.
16. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify HOP against claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Services, violation of these Terms or law, or disputes between you and other users, except to the extent caused by HOP’s wilful misconduct.
17. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Services at any time. We may suspend or end access immediately for breach, risk, or legal reasons. Provisions that by nature should survive (including payments owed, disclaimers, limitations, and indemnity) will survive termination.
18. Changes to the Services and Terms
We may update the Services and these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised Terms with an updated date. Material changes may also be notified in-app or by email. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance, except where local law requires affirmative consent.
19. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts located in Lagos, Nigeria will have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer protections that require another venue.
Before filing a claim, you agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting legal@hop.app and allowing 30 days for a response.
20. General
If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and HOP regarding the Services, and supersede prior understandings on that subject. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
